I’m getting a Photgraphy website designed and using wordpress as the CMS. The designer tells me I can not use flash so I’m asking the question here if it is possible as I really like a site that is using it and would like mine to be similar to this page http://www.naturephotography.org.nz/images/graeme-guy/graeme-guy.aspx
As far as I know, there are several add ons for WP that allow you to use Flash (can’t remember their names though). You can try these out first and see how they perform.
Ahh, the ‘link I added’ are my signature links, I didn’t mean you would find the answer there.
What I meant was that as far as I know, you can use flash objects in WP templates. There are also lots of WP plugins that use flash. So I was curious to know why your developer told you you can’t use flash.
As far as the exact look and functionality of the site you linked to, I have no idea if there is a WP flash plugin, or in general a flash slideshow available on the web that does exactly that. There are lots of them, so I’m sure you could find something similar.
Whoever told you that you can’t use Flash in Wordpress was talking rubbish, it’s entirely possible to embed Flash content within ANY website, no matter the CMS you use. However I would say that it’s a VERY bad idea to use a Flash image gallery because people who have accessibility needs (or cannot see Flash - like iPhone’s) will be unable to view your images and as a result you may lose some of your customers. I would advise perhaps a jQuery / JavaScript image gallery.
I think it is not a good idea to ignore flash just because iphone[apple] doesn’t support it, what if tomorrow apple will tell that they don’t support html.
Thanks for all the help guys. The developer wants to use this http://galleria.aino.se/media/galleria/demos/classic-01.html so I’ve reluctently agreed. Not exactly want we wanted and we weren’t catering for iphone so using flash wouldn’t of been a problem for us.
Thanks for the reply. I looked at the link you added but it isn’t exactly like naturephotography.org.nz gallery. So does this mean it’s not possible to get the exact look and functionality of the example?
I didn’t say ignore it… I just think you should ensure alternative content. Though the idea that Apple would not support HTML is absurd considering most of the worlds websites are powered by it (in some form). You can’t compare the two because they have nothing in common, Flash is a proprietary non-essential extension full of security vulnerabilities and HTML is a standardised syntax of simplicity. It’s totally a case of apples and oranges (no pun intended).
