Fishing Website

Hi,

I recently developed a website for my girlfriends salon and it has given me the web building bug!

I have always enjoyed fishing since being a child and have decided to try and catch specimins of every species this year posting my catches along the way.

I thought this would make for a great website but when I have sat down to start Ive run out of ideas. I havnt created a blog before so thought of this as a learning curve but then thought about creating a website to track my progress with a blog/forum attached. What do you think and do you have any ideas?

I recommend you check out wordpress.org. That’s the most popular blogging platform. It’s easy to install, and you can either design your own templates around it, use the default ones, or choose one of hundreds (maybe thousands) of themes that others have designed.

Another nice option is tumblr.

Im looking for a site like this:

Would I be best building my own website and then adding the blog to it or creating my site in wordpress?

I know as part of my sitepoint book there is a part about adding a blog to your site

Once you are using a cms, it seems way better to me to have as much of the site as is feasible in the CMS. You could add just the cms stuff, but it seems far easier to me to have all the static pages in the CMS alongside the blog content.

Is there any books that are worth buying to help me convert my web layout over?

Theres lots of design still to go with my page. Ill post up what I have so far tomorrow and then hopefully I can get some good pointers!!!

One of my favorite Wordpress books is: Rockstar WordPress Designer | Rockable Press | Rockable Press

I haven’t personally read it, but lots of people also recommend the sitepoint one: Build Your Own Wicked WordPress Themes by Allan Cole, Raena Jackson Armitage, Brandon R. Jones & Jeffrey Way
