Hi, my names Josh, I’m new to the forums.
I am currently building a website and I want to add a fading effect on the outside of my tables to blend in with my background, like the one of this site: http://tgft.com/
Does anybody have any clues on how to do this in either photoshop or fireworks?
tables are just short therm solutions
try using css as much as you can
nothing as long as you use them for their intended use, i.e. tabular data.

the effect that you seem to be looking for is an outer glow in Fireworks, of course with black rather than the default white, and you need some more tinkering with the settings.
Also, I hope you’re not using html tables for layout.
I haven’t been doing this very long, since February. I’m still trying to get a complete understanding of CSS. What is wrong with html tables?
