It’s not a rumour, if you checked the link they cited it says the following. Now I’m glad I didn’t take the time to learn it!
We will begin supporting IFrames for Page tabs in the next few months. Developers building canvas applications should start using IFrames immediately.

I wonder if they’d allow directly adding mark-up to Pages now (rather than having to go through Static FBML or some other app).
Hi I’m new here, just found he thread whilst looking for info about FBML and tab icons.
I do hope FBML gets phased out, really prefer not to have to learn and scour the net for resources for another language.
