Face Value
A pretty good album that is easy listening from Phil Collins (yeah yeah that’s not what this is about if you want that search for Phil Collins and Face Value).
Face Value
Do you believe everything some people say?
Example (and the reason I have posted this thread)
Matt Cutts September 2009
Google no longer use the meta keyword tag
Do you believe this as the gospel, the final word, the be all and end all, the proper exact and only truth?
For those that don’t can anyone remember the name of the other slightly less well known Googler (or Google engineer) who said during the same month that
“Google have changed their algorithm and now treat the meta keyword tag differently, but that is not to say we ignore it completely.”
Can anyone remember the name of the Google engineer that made that statement or words to that effect about 10 days or so b4 Matt Cutts went in like a bull in a china shop and said that Google no longer use the keyword meta tag at all?
Somebody please find that link to the statement back in Sept 2009 (I think it would have been sometime during the first two weeks of Sept 2009). Due to the Cutts statement the link seems to be lost in the quicksands of time buried deep by a swathe of related content so nigh on impossible to find.
And Mr Cutts (If you are reading - prove it please matey as I have evidence that statement was a crock and you either planned it to help clear up a mess Google had no other way of tackling or you misunderstood the statement by the other Googler (Google Engineer) about 2 weeks previous to your statement, who said something ever so slightly but oh so importantly different to the not using at all statement)
No, unless Google themselves actually say it. Which they wouldn’t of course.
Like all things you need to do your own research and try split testing to know for sure.
So does that mean you do not believe the oh so important Matt Cutts statement then?
Anyone have the name and/or better still the link to the other Google Engineers statement on the same subject that same month of sept 2009?
Sorry for extra post but this needs one
If Google do not use meta keyword tags why oh why then are they using them? >

I read and try to learn from all sources, but unless Google say it themselves or there is proof i.e. test results, then no I do not believe it.
I do believe in DYOR

Me to. If I had taken that one statement of Matt Cutts as the only truth I would not be still using the meta keyword tag (and using it properly which is what counts and I believe the other Google Engineer was referring to) I would be one of those now questioning why if Google don’t use meta keywords are they using them on their own sites like html5rocks oh and youtube of course. Others ?
Please add Google sites with Meta keywords if you find them peeps/
also here is a little experiment to try to see if it works for you
Add a couple of common typos to a couple of your keywords tags on each page and wait a week and go and check the search for that typo
You might be surprised at what you find - that is all I am saying LOL. (Not really I say a lot of daft things all over the place so I shall say more hopeully :))
Use of meta keywords is sn iggered at by the likes of Joast Van Der whatsit and others but they have uses oh so many uses
I think somebody has proof Yahoo are using them as well as Microsoft to there is a YouTube vid about Yahoo getting caught using the Meta Tags when they had stated they didn’t like Google supposedly don’t
Depends who said it. If the person is usually right or tells the truth then I usually will believe them. If not I may just disregard it.
