Explain this format please

Hello all. I’m a new member. I am building a website and the format that I would like to use comes from a website called ManageWP. If you don’t want to subscribe I can just explain it. Basically the webpage design is made up so that when you click on an item on the menu bar all information is uploaded on the same page and it does not redirect you to another page. The back round never changes but information is just loaded up (if that makes sense). I have someone who is going to help me build my website but he is in school. I want to educate myself as much as possible so I have a good idea as to how much work is going to be involved in making my website with this format. Also could you give me some insight as to how much would someone pay to have someone develop this format? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi rayray23. Welcome to SitePoint.

when you click on an item on the menu bar all information is uploaded on the same page and it does not redirect you to another page. The back round never changes but information is just loaded up (if that makes sense).

That’s not how the ManageWP site works as far as I can see, as each menu click lands on a new page (as you see from the URL). So maybe you mean something else.

Anyhow, the sort of thing you are describing sounds like it’s done with JavaScript. That can be fairly simple to do, but you need to be careful that the content is still accessible with JavaScript off—otherwise it will be a bad site, unnecessarily inaccessible to some users.

As to how much it would cost, it depends more on the size of the page, the design etc. The JS aspect of it wouldn’t be expensive. There are free scripts that do that sort of thing. For example, Google something like “jQuery tabs”.
