Exact-match .net/.org or country-specific TLD?

Hi everybody,

I’ve been reading up on Internet marketing and SEO for 7 or 8 years, and this week I finally decided to actually do something. So I researched a niche I plan to explore in my country, and I found some decent keywords (10k - 20k local searches/month, 35 - 40% SEOMoz difficulty score). Now, I don’t have any web presence (besides a neglected blog, that is), so I’m starting from scratch here.

For most of the keywords I’ve found (a half dozen or so), I can snap up a .net/.org for the registrar’s fee. Since these are fairly common dictionary words, the respective .com.<country TLD> domains are taken and outside my bootstrapped reach right now, but I could easily pull a thefacebook.com/getfirefox.com stunt and get a good but not perfect domain.

In this case, which option will give me the best results? Exact-match generic domain, or keyword-in-name country-specific domain?

All suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
