Email server

Hi, this may seem a very obvious question but I needed a clear answer to the question so thought best to get some advice.

I have a client who has a work email that he uses at work i.e. office computer and also at home and wants to receive the same emails to both computers. In this instance is setting up an xchange server the best option or would simply using ‘leave messages on server’ be the best option. In my experience leaving messages on server means downloading all messages every time.

Thanks in advance, any help is greatly appreciated.

I’d use IMAP - IMAP marks replies, forwards, read status etc. on the server so the status will propagate to both machines, POP doesn’t do this.

Yup, I’ve never used POP once I discovered the joy that IMAP is.

One one email: pop3
On another IMAP. I have that on my PC and laptop and everything is working. Just using POP use feature: leave mails on server

I believe if use this sceme you will never know which email was answered and which not. I would use email client (leave copies on server) and webmail.

Thanks for your help much appreciated. I will just tell the client to leave messages on server, thanks again.

POP is used more frequently by people who accessing email from 1 computer always

Yep.

Nope. Only once per client.

The other option would be to use IMAP instead of POP/SMTP, if it’s supported. However, since IMAP goes to the server for every request, it often appears to be slower than POP/SMTP. This is because the mail is saved locally with POP, unlike IMAP.
