Email Lists vs Email Databases

Ok, I’ve been doing my own research to come to terms with mass marketing.
It’s been 3 months and I tried out several different products and services… which includes buying of email lists and as well as renting them.

Basically ‘email lists’ are referred to lists of emails(probably would only include first name n last name). These lists are created by various methods like harvesting, co-registration, opt-ins etc etc.

‘Email Database’ is commonly referred to Lists which contains more info about the individual including Name, Location, mailing address, phone, fax, website etc etc.

If you are looking to market your online services, quality ‘Email lists’ are good enough. If your service is solely marketed offline, an email database would be best as it would contain all required details to execute a Telemarketing campaign.

I’ve tried many services so far, here are a few good ones…

One quick tip :

If you want to take your marketing to a very large scale, then buying the heaviest list should be you prime concern.

If you’re on a budget and still want to try out bulk mailing for your business, then just buying a small list of 500,000 - 1 Million of targeted email list that defines your Customer should do the trick.

The question is how Big is Big.

In your experience, what has been the success rate (opens/delivered/converted) with purchased email lists? While I’ve never done it, I’ve never heard people speak highly of a list they purchased or rented.

Buying e-mail lists (especially harvested off webpages) and marketing to them is SPAM. It’s unethical, in many countries it’s illegal, and it’ll definitely get your server blacklisted immediately after sending the mails.
