What is a good editor that can edit 200MB size files?
What sort of editing is required? Is this like a book? An editor like InDesign is good, but maybe even Word. Could you describe in a bit more detail what you are doing?
If the file concerned is something like a book then a program like word would be best. I would strongly suggest making use of (if it’s a book) large document manage options (in word it is refered to as a “Master Document” with each chapter being a sub-document, with the master document being used maintain things like the overall table of contents.
In any case no matter what type of file it is, it will be best if the computer it is being edited on has plenty of RAM.
I meant a text file editor as in editing data files or computer code files. It is a text file dump in comma separated data from Excel spreadsheet.
Files that I normally would use Notepad, but is too big to fit into notepad.
For large files I use EditPadLite and it opens several hundred MB files without a problem. You can have a 200MB text file opened and editable almost instantly if you don’t use word wrap, with word wrap you’ll have to wait a few seconds but still it’s pretty fast. Go to Options -> Configure File Types to set default word wrap setting for opened files.
Actually, this is my default notepad in windows because it’s very light and fast and has so many more features than the windows notepad. And it will never hang even if I double click on a 500MB sql dump file!
