Edge over Flash

Adobe Edge the new project soon to be released by Adobe that may thunder over Flash, do you agree ?

I personally like what I saw because it doesn’t require you to learn a new language such as ActionScript and you can if you know Javascript do what you want with effects you want, using HTML/CSS and JS, sweet combination.

Various technologies have been trying to overthrow flash for years (Shockwave, Silverlight, Java, SVG, HTML5), but for some reason, it’s been the dominant interactive web application platform which has show no signs of dieing.

Granted, html5 has been the closest to overthrowing flash (at least in the media player arena), but since nobody can decide on an actual common standard, it’s still going to be a while.

Edge sounds interesting, but as the link indicates, it’s still experimental.

It looks cool, but I don’t think it’s overthrow Flash… at least not in many areas.

Flash has a lot of stuff which can, at best, only be replicated with canvas and complicated Javascript (for drawing the vector-based shapes Flash has).

It could come into usefulness with simple things like interactive multimedia presentations… but really you can do those with just HTML/CSS/Javascript already, so I don’t see what the point would be too much.

I am downloading it and will play around with it though, because it does sound interesting. =p

So, I played around with it for a bit. It’s obviously very limited at the moment. It feels a lot like Premiere or something. It has simple keyframing which it them interpolates through as it plays.

It’s nothing too impressive, but it has potential for making multimedia presentations easier.
