Drop-down menu resources

Can anyone point me to resources for drop-down menus that do the following things, preferably accessibility compliant or CSS list based solutions:

  • Select item then click OK to jump to a new page

  • One selection in a drop-down will present a subset in another drop-down

thanks

Just to check, are you talking about form control drop-downs here, rather than navigation-type menus?

Choosing from a list and clicking OK is pretty straightforward, you need to set it up as a form, and then write a script to process the form, which involves taking the URL value from the drop-down and redirecting to it. That should be easy enough to do in PHP, but I’m not an expert and so this may or may not work:
In the document:

<form method="post" action="select.php">
<select name="url" id="url">
<option selected value="">Please select...</option>
<option value="http://domain.com/page1">First page</option>
<option value="http://domain.com/page2">Second page</option>
<option value="http://domain.com/page3">Third page</option>
</select>
<input value="OK" type="submit">
</form>

then in “select.php”

<?php
header ("Location:_POST['$url']");
exit;
?>

Other more knowledgeable people may now come along and find a million problems with that…

In terms of using the value selected in the first option box to populate the list of options in the second box, that can only be done with Javascript, or by using server-side scripting to rebuild and reload the page after you’ve OK’d the first box.

Thanks - that will save me looking for something that doesn’t exist

For the first option you need javascript for the second one you need the program you use for you coding (PHP, Coldfusion, ASP, …)

Do you mean something like this?

Yeah - that look like what I’m looking for. I’ll investigate it further. Thanks
