Domain parking has an advantage?

What exactly is Domain Parking and what are its advantage? Pleas share it. Thank You

Domain parking has a variety of advantages.

  1. A popular domain which is expired recently will still have backlinks and rankings which can be converted into advertisements
  2. A small change in the domain name from an existing popular domain name may be used to pull traffic and convert it to PPC or ad campaigns

Domain parking can also be a valuable tool for those who are looking to buy and well domain names.

Domain parking is the practice of reserving a domain for future use (which you think will be beneficial to you at a future date).

As such, this exercise does not help in a very big way. Some people use a parked domain for content distribution or for revenue generation by placing ads on it (in such cases, you use parked domain as sub domain or say add on domain).

Hi,

Domain parking is the registration of an Internet domain name without using it for services such as e-mail or a website i.e without placing any content on the domain.

Thread moved from SEO to Domain Names as it looks like it’s more relevant there.

I am not sure if google check that a site is live and has content or not

but

Domain Age from what I can see plays a huge ranking factor. I have seen a site that has nothing going for it apart from it’s age rank at the top of google for a competitive keyword.

If domain parking = domain age then I’d say it’s a good thing but I am no expert.

Disagree.
Domain age and length of registration, (as confirmed by Matt Cutts) in itself, do not impact ranking. An old domain is worth it, if and only if,

  • It has a good number of relevant, authority backlinks
  • It has a high PR
  • It is a reputed domain (i.e. it enjoyed a good search ranking)

‘Age’ in itself, does not guarantee rankings. A 10 year old parked domain that will have zero impact on your website’s reputation.

Also, in it’s latest blog, Google has clearly specified that it prefers not to show parked domains that are seldom useful, often filled with ads and typically don’t have valuable content for our users.

Well

There is a site I have been looking at that ranks very well for a competitive keyword. It has a very limited number of backlinks coming into it, can’t remember now but say 100, has broken links and very little content is not listed on DMOZ or Yahoo. The links from what I can tell were bog standard.

The only thing I can see going for it is it’s domain age.

It still racks my brains…

We’re heading rapidly off-topic here – the original question was about domain parking. Please stick to that, or find/start a suitable thread if you want to go off at a tangent!

Imho, parking your domain is useful only when you don’t have the time to spend on working on a good domain. But in order to earn some cash, it must have a lot of traffic. And you can’t bring people on your website while the domain is parked, so you should do that before. Make it popular and only then you can park it.

Anyways, I am not a fan of this practice.

I feel that small number of domain parking wont generate much benefit. To enjoy the benefit, we have to purchase few thousand domains and above.

Currently hugedomains have about 465,254 domain parking (according to reverse IP), hugedomains have high traffic and PR. With that number of traffic and page rank, you can easily sell ads and premium domains.
