Does desktop app for web monitoring stand a chance in this cloud world?

Hi,
we created a desktop based server monitoring application because we needed it. We didnt want cloud based solution because of the price and the fact that you have to pay forever..and we dont believe in “forever”.

We also wanted to be the keepers of our own data for lot of reasons. Application is Vigilant Bit Monitor (vigilantbit.com) but here is the problem. Everyone has been telling us that it can`t succeed because it is too simple (when has that became a problem in this world?!) and desktop based.
Since it can also measure page speed, we thought it can be very useful for web development companies, SEO or Conversion Optimization agencies.

We plan on upgrading it with some additional features but frankly we are not sure if we should continue with it at all. Any suggestion would help on do you like it or not, and most importantly, would you use it?!

Thank you in advance for your time!

Well, it can only monitor while your computer is on and you’re logged in. Which means it needs to be on 24/7 to be effective… Why wouldn’t you just run it on your server? I’d imagine most developers would search for a self hosted app, not something that runs on a desktop.

You have a lot of things going against you for the desktop app market. Especially for things that need to run 24/7 and marketed to developers.

Does it work on Mac and Linux too? Quite a lot of developers run Mac or Linux.

Yes, you are right. Thank you very much for your answer. We will have to still work on it… Btw, for now, it runs only on Windows
