Do Social Media fuel the pace of Globalization?

My view: The world is flat, we are living in a semi-globalized world, heading towards a fully globalized world and the emergence of modern social media has further fueled the pace of globalization, connecting people from all walks of life irrespective of nationality, religion, caste, color, creed, gender … creating a boundary less world.

Social media is certainly speeding up the process of globalization by means of bringing people all around the world to a uniform platform where they can share views, thoughts, ideas and much more.

most countries know how to speak english so i guess language issues is not that a big deal this days…

this line of reasoning is faulty

if it were true, we’d all better go out and get chinese keyboards and start practicing

well, not necessarily, i am talking about a language that is widely accepted among the net users, I guess, it is English. Even Chinese are learning English, as they attract more and more BPO jobs and foreign direct investments.

Language is probably one of the more obvious barriers remaining online–not everyone speaks English, although a majority of users do (even if as a second–or third–language).

On the other hand, translation tools are better than they were 10 years ago–which is enough to get the gist of what’s being said.

it sure got a huge impact. communities all over the world would adopt gestures, trends from each other. i guess that would be a good thing.

yes, that is a good point, language barrier does exist today, but will disappear slowly in the future, as more and more people become net users, they will slowly learn the language spoken by the web community.
