Hey I am curious, do you think people would sign up for Free Web hosting? I am thinking to setup a Hosting Reseller account with HostGator and offer free web hosting. do you think people will actually sign up and is it a good idea?

It depends on who you are going to get to pay for the “free” hosting accounts.
In the past an advertiser pays model was popular but with the lower amount that is paid for most ads you’d probably need something else as well if you expect to at least break even.
What motivates you? Why do I want to do? Your goal is only to illustrate, I believe that some people will be registered. If useful, really free~
The idea looks god to me.I think people specially the newbies will love this and sign up in your free hosting service.But I am curious how this will give you benefits and why you wanna give this service free.
Places that offer “free” hosting do so because they can make more money from whoever they get to pay for the hosting than they can from those supplying the content.
Where they get advertisers to pay for the hosting the hosting is paid for from the ad income and those getting free accounts will have all the useful ad spots around their content displaying ads that provide the income that pay for the hosting.
Another way I have seen used is where a survey site pays for the hosting and those using the “free” hosting have to complete regular surveys with the hosting being their payment for doing so.
I think it all depends upon what you are offerig for free. And if you are giving free hosting on Hostgator, there will be lots of people who will actually be interested in getting it
Actually there is something, no one gets anything for free 
but its not bad. I have another site called HateForFree which I just started about 2 weeks ago. I am thinking of ways to promote it. It’s like a social network for Haters. I was thinking about offering the first 100 or 200 new members free hosting provided they create a new account and invite 5 of their friends. Thats it. Nothing more to it. Signing up and inviting 5 of their friends takes 2 mins, There is no gimmics, just a site to have fun and let out your frustration and hate on whatever you hate on.
Is it a bad idea to offer free hosting as a reward for this?
As I mentioned before, my site HateForFree which I want to promote is only 2 weeks old, there are no gimmics, there are ZERO ads on my site and I dont’ plan to have any ads on my site for a long time. Say after a year, I want to have a couple of ads on the site, they will not be those retarded survey ads, they will probably be simple and well placed Google Adsense ads. Thats it!
So in other words, my goal right now is to only promote and get good members on the site who invite at least 5 of their friends. I have ways to monitor who invites who. Once I verify that they meet this simple condition. I will offer them free hosting as a reward. I don’t expect any ROI for a long while.
Am I crazy to do this? I am only brainstorming and looking for your expert opinions before I start this. The hosting service will be great without a doubt with all sites hosted at HostGator.
Only if you don’t have a plan to make money from all your members (either directly or through some other means) at some point in the future to make up for the what it is going to cost you to give them the hosting in the first place.
Anywhere that started out offering “free” hosting that doesn’t manage to convert it into a decent income almost certainly disappears within twelve months because the provider can’t afford it any more.
Yes people will sign up for this. Still you will have to advertise a lot your site as the market is all ready taken. ( the sense that this is not a new idea ).
