I have a website i have built its a DJ Website with online booking and i am wanting to know its value of the website or calculate how much it would cost i know a domain apprasal and website apprasals are different so how much would it cost to sell
And how can i calculate an accurate qoute on how much it will cost to sell?
There are so many factors that go into site selling that it’s impossible to determine one’s value until you actually post it on something like Flippa. For some, the url alone could be worth a couple grand if not more.
From someone who’s tracked literally thousands and thousands of website sales and studied the prices websites have gone for, there is one thing that’s beyond doubt: There is no such thing as “rule of thumb” - whether “general” or otherwise - and certainly no grounds to claim that sites sell for 10x or 12x monthly revenues.
People who claim that sites sell for a certain multiple are usually either those who’ve very little experience themselves and heard some nonsense elsewhere (and there are enough site-flipping advice sites spewing that junk!), or those who have an ulterior motive in talking up or talking down selling prices.
About my own purchases, I’ve often paid 24x to 36x for good sites and I’d be willing to pay even more than that for a well established site with unique content that’s of a high quality. In fact I’ve bought a lot more sites at the 24x-48x multiples than the 10x-12x sh1t end of the market.
A general rule of thumb when flipping a site will be to just go 10x’s the monthly revenue. that should give you a good idea of what it’s worth. Now if you have a list, can verify traffic source, prove that income, and have social networks already set up, the site value can be well over that 10x monthly income mark. do a little research, and you will be able to come up with a good amount to sell the site for.
It would cost you $19 to sell in Flippa (plus the cost of their “success fee” if you find buyer).
With regards valuation, I’ve written the Sitepoint article on it. You’ve got three choices.
You can use one of those valuation websites that work off simply your domain name - they collect some freely available data on that domain, PR, backlinks etc., and come up with a wild guess.
You can put your site up for auction and see what the market is willing to pay
You can present all the facts in a specialist valuation forum (such as the one on my site) and ask some experts.
Which makes more sense - most businesses (of any type) are generally valued at multiples of yearly profits, at least 2x, more normally 4 or 5x. Just think - why would you sell your own business for less than 1x your yearly profits?
I guess its up to how much the buyer wants it. I have a site taxexec(dot)com that has little traffic but I sure would not give it away. Any free appraisal tool says its worth nothing basically.
For some reason I think I will get a decent offer on it one day. A niche that is not going away any time soon dang it.
As a buyer I don’t know how much stock I would put into a pricing site that just multiplies the monthly revenue by 10 or 12. It seems to me the buyer would want to know far more about the traffic, backlinks and patronage to gain a well informed view of potential worth.
The value is not specific. it depends on the earnings either short term or long term. recently i have sold a site which is a new site and makes almost none but it sold for a fair price. Here the potential of the keyword and the website matters. With my experience i would say buyers always expect for a long term benefits rather than short term.
Hi. But what about an online shop?. is it still the same, i have a website that has been running for just over 2 years now and turned 66k uk pounds in its first year with profit of 26k and the 2nd year 88k profit of 40k net. It is growing fast in this 3rd year and sells a tailored car accessories product. Is it best to wait for 3 years?. I am just adding a new item that should take the site to 100k in year 3 but i do have a new entirely different project overseas in spain to build a log cabin, and i dont think ill have the time to take the site any further, so im exploring possibly selling, It has massive potential But its so difficult to get an appraisal, Can anyone reccommend a company. I am UK based. Many thanks
Of course it does. Every seller says that. Some even believe it themselves
Why do you want an appraisal? What are you going to do with the worthless opinion of some self-appointed “expert”. The only “appraisals” that matter are those made by buyers who have the money in their pockets and the intention to go ahead with the purchase.

Ah, but quoting that sites are worth 12x makes for thousands of posts from the clueless trying to appear that they’re privy to some great secret.
