Designing Wordpress themes

Hi all,

Im looking to design a custom theme for Wordpress, as its a CMS i’m comfortable with, however I’m really struggling to get a grips with even the basics of theming it.

I have a static HTML page built from my PSD designs, I’ve had a good search through several sites with guides but none have been of much use to me.

I was thinking of the possibility of using an alternative CMS that has HTML integration but im not sure if that going to suffice for the website i’m creating, so I thought the next best thing would be to ask for advice on creating a theme for wordpress.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Search for blank wordpress seo template on Google. There are plenty of blank templates that are SEO optimized, and very easy to understand.

Update:

I found quite a useful tutorial. I followed it step by step and have an error.

This is where the theme is hosted: Game Of 2 Halves | Game Of 2 Halves

I get: “Fatal error: Call to undefined function the_post_thumbnail() in /hermes/bosweb/web287/b2871/ipg.gameof2halvescom/wordpress/wp-content/themes/Wordpress Theme GO2H/index.php on line 15”

The line of code on the line is

<?php if ( function_exists( 'add_theme_support' ) ) the_post_thumbnail(); ?>

Any help would be super. Thanks.

Edit: Another thing I noticed was the theme is more complete on the 404 error page. For example: http://www.gameof2halves.com/wordpress/4
