I would like to ask your opinion regarding my current situation.
I am now in the process of planning my main design website(I am a graphic designer) and I am torn apart by the two ways I can approach the development.
I would love to create my website in good ol’ HTML/CSS but since I will also have my portfolio on my site I am now considering the use of a CMS since I don’t want to spend more time than I have two in doing updates to my portfolio.
I am considering Wordpress but I’m not enough of a coder to handle PHP also I’m not exactly sure how I can add custom page templates. EE looks good but is terribly out of my budget.
I’m sure there is a way and I look forward to your suggestions.
I’d suggest WordPress with proper portfolio theme. You can find some good that are free to use. You’d only have to do some editing to the code to get it in your way but anyway it can save your time.
I really wouldn’t let limited knowledge in PHP hold you back from using Wordpress. The documentation they have is really good. For example, below are the pages that should get you started on using custome templates…
Additionally, there are plenty of other resources on the web (including the Wordpress and SitePoint forums) to help you figure out how to do something specifically.
If you haven’t already, just start reading through the documentation to get a better understanding of how Wordpress and themes work…should give you a better idea of what’s involved. If you feel it’s too much, then as snecz suggests, there are plenty of free themes available on the web to at least get you started.
