Apple Inc said that it and its phone company partners took orders for more than 600,000 iPhone 4s in one day, the highest number it’s ever seen.
If you think Apple has still has to go a long way to lead the market, you might be in for a bit of a surprise.
New numbers from research firm IDC indicates that the iPhone maker has more than doubled their global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2010, compared to the first quarter of 2009. Apple maintains its position as the third-largest smartphone vendor in the world – behind Nokia and BlackBerry (RIM) – with the iPhone accounting for 16.1% of all smartphones shipped in Q1 2010.
Apple is trend setter and all other Phone makers are going to loose thier market share to Apple. Apple very rapidly gaining in the smartphone segment.
This is the time for other vendors to wake up.
I think the iPhone 4 looks incredibly sexy and I am seriously considering purchasing one myself, but it’s the price of the plans which is holding me back.
PS: It doesn’t surprise me that Apple have gotten that kind of market share, the announcement that they’ve overtaken Microsoft in business did.
