CSS Wysiwyg Editor

Hey All,

I’m looking for a editor component to add to a CMS, we currently use WYSIWYG Pro, which is good, but at the end of the day it’s got the problems every other editor does.

We’re looking for something that generates CSS code through an editor interface, and is as much like desktop publishing (draw a box here, insert an image and drag it around) etc. as possible.

I’m looking for something that is an existing piece of software, will run on LAMP… I’m not sure if this even exists at this point, but we’re not really shy about spending money on the right solution.

Thanks,
Dave

I don’t think a drag and drop tool like that exists in the context for what you want, however I would say that such a tool would be a bad idea. Current WYSIWYG controls have at least some basic control over the appearance because they force you to add code using text boxes, if you could drag and drop stuff like in Publisher, you’d end up with code that doesn’t work cross browser and massacres the general design. Giving your clients something that flexible would run a serious risk of overwriting your existing style, causing all sorts of problems for the end user and adding surplus code (in the same way FrontPage does).

Hey Alex,

I have seen CMS’ use something like this before, however I’m not sure if it’s just something proprietary and not available publicly.

I think you misunderstand what I’m looking for too, I’m not looking for an editor to give the client complete control over all the styles and design of the site, but just a very specific area, it would also have to generate clean CSS code, so I know it’s a tall order heh.

Thanks,
Dave
