Creating EQUAL rounded corners

Hi,

I have recently been creating rounded corner boxes. They are very easy to make in fireworks using the rounded box auto-shape. But I need to make boxes that expand with the size of the viewport. So i use the sliding doors technique. This calls for 4 seperate images. As if the box has been split into four pieces.

My problem is this. The way i create these four slices is to create four boxes and then size them to the size they need to be (i.e. topleft.gif, topright.gif etc). however when i try to size the corners all the same they tend to look different. It seems the look of the corners are depndant on the width and height of the shape. even thogh you can automatically set the size of the corner in fireworks they appear different because the shapes are different (I think…)

Can anyone tell me how i can get around this problem. there is obviously something I am doing that is blatently stupid.:nono:

thanks

As I don’t use fireworks I can’t give you specifics but what I’d do is create a master box with the corner radius you need. Then, slice that up, place it in the corners you need then fill the rest of the box in with colour.

By creating the box then resizing it, you’re changing the size and ratio of the corners. If you create the box at it’s final size, it should still have the correct corner radius, as long as you don’t resize or reshape it.

In photoshop, a box with a 4px radius has that radius not matter what size it is drawn to originally.

Hope that helps!

thanks Guv. youre absolutely right. I originally put this thread up at beginning of feb. since then I have been working at it and the I realised that creating the full master shape was the answer.

thanks for taking the time!
