I have no idea if I’m posting in the correct forum but if anyone could help me it would be really appreciated as I’m at my wits end! Plus not being technical minded doesn’t help!
Anyway the problem I’m having is when I download banner ads I can see some of them but others appear as a small white sheet of paper with the top right corner folded and the paper has colored dots on it. A workmate suggested I save to a JPEG file but I only have two file options - GIF and BMP. Do I need JPEG and if so how do I get it or could it be another problem? I have XP.
When I want to save a banner I right click it then choose ‘Save Picture As’ then I name the banner. The ‘Save as type’ is either GIF or Bitmap (bmp) and GIF is normally highlighted so I just leave it at that and click save. After saving I can see some banners but other times it is saved as I mentioned above - like a small white sheet of paper with the top right corner folded down and in the middle there are six colored dots.
A work colleague suggested saving file to JPEG but it doesn’t give me that option in the ‘Save as type’ just the two above. You got any idea what the problem is? Am I doing something wrong?
I’ll call for this to be moved to the ‘Design Your Site’ areas…
It sounds like either; the images have been overlaid or your M$IE browser cache needs clearing all “temporary files” emptying and the browser restarting. If you used Firefox you probably wouldn’t get that error.
I am assuming you are seeing a broken image link when you describe the folded paper icon unless you mean the icon for the associated image file-type?
You would have to save the image in the same format as it began with for animation (GIF) assuming it is not an embedded Flash object, etc.
I recently helped my brother get an image for his Facebook profile. I took a picture with my digicam, and sent it to him as a jpg in an email. He’s not too tech savvy (still uses AOL) so the next time I was visiting he asked me to do it for him. I was confused too to not see jpg as an option. What I did was ignore the selection and just saved it as face.jpg - adding the extension to the filename - it was saved as a jpg and I then uploaded it to his Facebook profile OK.
Well I don’t know what’s happened but I seem to be able to save banners in JPEG now!
I clicked on BPartchs small picture above and JPEG makes an appearance in ‘Save as type’! I have no idea why but it gets stranger still…when I try to save a banner it always has some sort of number/reference in the ‘File name’ but I would always change that so that I could name the banner myself i.e. if I was to save a sitepoint banner it could say ‘sitepoint1234’ but I would change it to ‘Sitepo728x90’. When I rename it that’s when the folded paper icon appears but if I don’t change the name I can save the banner. Is it me or is my comp taking the proverbial!
Anyway I have been able to save banners I want so hopefully I have no more problems!
