Corporate networks blocking social networking

Hi there

I want to create a website for a client where we feed in content from external sources, so for example:

RSS feeds from Twitter/Blogger/facebook
Embedded Youtube videos

The audience will be mainly medium to large corporates and I’m aware that a lot of them block their staff from visiting these sorts of sites.

Do people think the above content, that I am feeding into a different site, will also be blocked - ie RSS feeds / embedded youtube?

If so is there any way round the problem?

Thanks in advance!

You may get in trouble with the social networking sites if you syndicate all their content. Will probably get away with posting limited RSS headlines, however, that won’t solve the problem that most corporate networks block social media.

Best,

Justin

thanks. No it wouldn’t be other people’s content it would be stuff that we’re posting ourselves - ie our twitter feed, our youtube videos etc etc

Do corporate networks also block RSS feeds from these sort of sites?

Macdan,

Most RSS comes via HTTP, plus many businesses use RSS internally for updates and syndication. While some on-line RSS readers are blocked, most corporate blocking is done by domain name.

This means feeds from blocked sites aren’t likely available – Why don’t you visit some of your corporate customers, find out what they are blocking first hand?

You can also use a demographic tool to see if the cites in question get enough of the corporate traffic you are seeking. Many vendors like Infoblox, IBM, …, are posting on YouTube, so you never know until you ask.

Good luck,

Justin

thanks for your advice.
