Controlling power outlet through computer sotware?

I need to know this:
I have a 1-wire temperature monitoring network and i like computer software to control the fans around the house.
How can I control a power outlet from the computer?

One way would be to purchase some X-10 equipment. I have not worked with X-10 in many years, but I recall a computer interface and controls such as temperature, lights, etc.

I suggest you try the question here:

Also I am sure searching by keywords: powerstrip microcontroller control
will show more than enough results:

There are some rather pricey power controllers with ethernet and IP support, and an interface that will allow you to control individual outlets from anwhere on the internet.

Here’s one example: http://www.intelligentpowerstrips.com/

But x10 is probably more applicable for household control, the above unit is more for computers than house fans & such.

hey thanks guys for your ideas. They might work for sure but i am looking for many different option then i will choose the easiest and economical one.
