I have nearly 120 websites in a server and thought of compressing the images to save some disk space.
server is besed on centos and cpanel /whm.
any shell based solutions? Thanks!

There are compression tools available for 'nix servers but, if you’ve created your images wisely (with enough compression to minimize file size while maintaining sufficient image integrity), then you’ve already minimized the size of your images. I would NOT use server compression when image compression is so readily available.
Because .jpg images offer different compression levels when saving (and GIF/PNG images so not), try to use .jpg images for the best compression for photo images (GIF can best be used for B&W or 8-bit color with line drawings or solid shapes).
