Column is Far too Wide. How do I resolve it please?

I have a table problem in that column 9 is far too wood to accommodate one character

The page is at http://www.c5d.co.uk/1939NTIBHigherHurst&Greenhurst.php. and I guess it’s obvious what I want to do, but I can’t figure out what’s making column 9 so wide.

Can anyone help please? and advise what I should do to resolve this.

The CSS for this table is all at the bottom of the stylesheet

Thanks

Hi, Antony.

Column 9 is accommodating the text “PERSONAL OCCUPATION” in column 9, between rows with the addresses

10 Woodlands Road
and
12 Woodlands Road

If that text is eliminated, the width decreases per normal table behavior.

It’s just the nature of how the table element works. The td’s will be as wide as is necessary to contain what you put in them, since you haven’t specified their widths. So a ways down the table you have the text “Personal Occupation” in that field, which is defining the size of that column. You could put a line break in there so that it took two lines, and would thus be about half as wide, or you could abbreviate it, use a smaller font, etc.

Edit, sorry ronpat beat me to it

That’s great.

I’ve looked at it for hours and couldn’t spot it. Great what a fresh pair of eyes does

Thanks for coming back to me. I had looked at it for hours and couldn’t spot that the text was in the wrong box!

Amazing what a fresh pair of eyes does
