.cn Domain Name Registration

Hi guys

Has anyone used a registration service to get hold of a .cn domain name? Maybe a trustee service.

Any recommendations. It appears I can get a .com.cn name but not as easy to get hold of a .cn name now.

“In any case be accurate with this domain name extension.”

And that’s why I asked in my original message:

“Has anyone used a registration service to get hold of a .cn domain name? Maybe a trustee service.”

My research looks like I will use these guys:

You’d need to take that up with the Chinese government. They are the ones who set the rules on what you can and can’t do in China (and that includes all .cn domains).

Many countries have similar rules regarding their country’s domains - for example if you wanted a .com.au domain then you’d need to register your business in Australia before you can apply for the domain.

Its called “protecting your brand”. You know that if a site uses a .cn domain then they have the required legal presence inside China or they wouldn’t be allowed to use China’s “brand”.

Hi Stephen

The whole point is we want to take out the ‘ought to be able to’ from this by getting it now.

Once you actually get your China subsidiary established then you ought to be able to get the .cn domain then.

Why don’t use TLD domain names around the world?

If you are thinking about CN as closest domain name extension to COM do better shift to CM or to CO domain names at all.

.cn and .com.cn can now be registered only through a Chinese registrar. Other are not allowednow.

Good luck.

Good luck with your domain name registration. In any case be accurate with this domain name extension.

Good luck.
I suppose that is not a problem in registrar. That is the problem of usage domain name extension.

Yup. I was surprised by the lack of knowledge on here to tell you the truth. I hadn’t realised this forum was just for those trading domain names.

All done and dusted with Marcaria.com. So, in case someone Google’s ‘registering a CN Chinese domain’ and they land here, I used Marcaria.com to do it. The domain name is held in trust by their partner in China. You will get a certificate of ownership from Marcaria.

I couldnt find anywhere else that would do this, but there may well be others.

So if we set up in China, it would be good to have product.CM and product.CO as domain names for our company?

Cheers

Del

Nope, we have set up a company and want to protect the brand with a view to moving into the Chinese market in a couple of years.

I hadnt realised this forum was only about the trading domain names.

Apologies all.

What for? Are you thinking about investigation in those domain names? That cfould be money and time wasting then. I have never seen someone was intersted or ready to pay god price for those domain names.

Thanks carolinda - appreciated.

I may look into them next time. Marcaria.com did the trick this time, but it helps to know about alternatives.
