Choosing a server

Hi There,

I am just about to choose a server on which I am going to host a number of website.

Just wondering if you could advise on which server/company in the UK is the best to go for, if search engine optimisation is the priority.

A bit irrelevant for a post about servers and SEO (which in itself is irrelevant), but I have to agree with you. We use 1and1 for some of our PHP websites and they are awful considering what you pay. Also, their new TV adverts are an abomination! You cannot be a serious hosting company when you advertise Geocities-esque site builders for businesses wanting to use the Internet…

I thought the servers had two effects

  1. Faster loading pages peform better on search engines. For me this meant having a hosting company that provides decent servers and also a decent connection
  2. Being able to multiple IP addresses - something to do with C-class …

don’t go with 1and1 my boss did and it has caused me no end of trouble, so many people have complained about them it’s unreal.

Choosing a server probably have no effect on SEO.

Only thing that would relate to a hosting is speed. Google recommends better speed. As long as you have a good server, it won’t matter for SEO.

I don’t think there’s much of a relationship between SEO and the web host you choose. SEO is really about what you put on the page yourself.
