Choosing a facebook fan page name for gossip website

Hi, I would like to start a gossip website and would like some suggestions as to choosing the right name for my facebook fan page. I am new to this and not sure whether I register the fan page as a Brand, Entertainment or something else?

If a name is already taken that is the same as my domain name can I still create this fan page with the same name or do I need a new name?

My domain name contains 2 words - is it better to name the fan page as 1 word or as 2 with a space?

Thanks and look forward to your suggestions for best practice to use to get it right the 1st time.

You can title your page just about anything [aside from profanity, trademarks, etc.] but can only get a vanity url that is not already used.

For the category it’s going to depend on exactly what your site does and if you consider it news or entertainment. Neither has much differences in the settings or display.

The site will be in the celebrity gossip niche so I would suspect it would be related to entertainment (correct me if I am wrong). Is there one main website that a person can perform a search for trademarks, etc… worldwide?

No. Trademarks exist at many levels from individual states / provinces up to countries. USPTO.gov searches federal marks in the US [which is not all use trademarks] but since many companies do business in the US it’s fairly useful when paired up with your local AU database.

If you want to be really certain you’d hire an attorney to do a complete search not just on the main name but related terms to look for possible conflicts.

Looks like depending how serious I am and what I want to do with my website as for the future for this business model will definitely require an attorney to look deep into this topic as to branding rights, etc. :slight_smile:

I would either make it generic so that you will have more fans or you can make it a original name so that you can create a brand.

That is right. Make up your own name for your page. Just make it simple and easy to remember.

So making it generic as opposed to a brand - is it possible to change this at a later stage or once you create one than no changes of this sort can be made at a later time. This is for the naname of the facebook fan page.

No it can not be changed after you get 100 likes.

and @ facebook fan page its already taken then try this facebook/epicmp3com dont make changes in name it results in some minor issues :stuck_out_tongue:

You can have vanity URL only when you have atleast 25 likes.Before that only code will be shown in your Facebook Page URL.Its better to keep targetted keywords in the vanity URL as this will rank in google for that particular keyword and if people like it then they might click on Like button.
