I am trying to find an application or applications that will allow me to make cartoons using a mixture of photographs and graphics. I have found plenty of applications that offer to convert photos to cartoons. However, what I am looking for is an application where I can make a cartoon or cartoon strip by adapting an image in a photo, for example putting a politician’s head on say, an image of a knight so that it looks real without the giveaway clumsy border around the instered image. Another example might be of adapting a poster of a newly released film by inserting or substituting images of the actors so that these blend into the overall image. I have iMAC iWEB, iWORK, Keynote, Pages and maybe the masking tools I require are included in these. I have read through the features of Photoshop and other applications but I am not sure if these have what I want. Can anyone suggest where I might start looking?
Te tasks you’ve described seem like a perfect fit for Photoshop to me.

I would certainly think so. You can do just about anything with pixels in Photoshop. You could probably do anything you needed even in Elements, Photoshop’s baby sister. But with Photoshop itself, the sky’s the limit, really.

Do you mean cartoon making? Otherwise, not sure what you mean. There are lots of tools out there, but I’m only familiar (just a little bit) with Photoshop and Illustrator. Photoshop is good for pixel-based work (like paintings) and Illustrator is goof for more vector-based work, like a lot of TV cartoons. You know, like the Simpsons and such like.

Feel free to say more. I’m just not sure what you are asking. Are you trying to create a cartoon from scratch, or do you have some elements that are already done and that you want to develop further?

O, animated … Well, then that sounds like more of a job for Flash or something similar. This is not my area, though. You won’t get much animation in Photoshop or Illustrator (other than animated gifs, though they are very basic and would be no good for a proper cartoon). I’m not sure if you can create the graphics in Flash, though, or whether you have to import each frame from something like Illustrator. Certainly something to investigate further. You could either wait for more responses, or go Google something like “how to create an animated 3d cartoon” or similar.
