Hi I am a mid weight PHP developer, been working for a fairly large agency for the past 4 years.
I am getting very bored of England I am quite interested in warmer climates perhaps in sydney. I was looking around and finding it hard to get a grasp on the whole Australian digital scene.
I can do pretty much anything required, emails, html, css3, javascript, magento, drupal, joomla, OOP php, code igniter, zend, django, apache. Ok that is quite enough was not supposed to be that long but you get the idea.
I would really like to know, about salaries they seem like you get paid a lot more, I just don’t know what salary I should be expecting.
Is the cost of living greater?
What are the biggest agencies in Sydney?

I’m from the UK too and set up in Sydney about 9 years ago. Not sure out comparable wages as the markets are slightly different in their requirements (sydney market is smaller than UK so job specs can often differ). However, you can usually find this info out by checking out job boards and the payrates on agency websites.
Australia is dominated by Seek (www.seek.com.au) a national job board. There are many others, but Seek is a key starting point. You’ll also find all the usual agencies adverstising such as Hays, MPage etc. There are specialist digital agencies also but they tended to be much smaller.
One important note - agencies won’t touch you without a Visa and/or an arrival date. Might be worth speaking with some UK agencies who have Australian sites as they may be able to assist with this.
