Career Advice Needed

So I’m a multi-media major and I wanted to focus on web design. I quickly learned that I have to keep myself updated because my school only provided 2 classes really dealing with web design. I often find myself question and wondering if I am in the right field and where do I fit in. Just looking at code excites and stimulates my mind. I absolutely love it. It is an intimidating field but I need to get over that and gain some confidence. I am currently a web manager for and online business and I get to design a few things but to get to the nitty gritty back end stuff i have to go through our developer. I want to be in his shoes or at least somewhere close. I need to be in a creative field but I really want coding to be involved. If I could learn it all I would but my bandwidth right now won’t allow for it.

My real question is what time of classes should I take or areas should I study more of the become a better coder and not just someone that knows HTML5

HTML5 is front end if back end is what your into you need to think server side PHP, JSP, Ruby, ASP.NET, Java - I don’t know much about these languages though. I am trying to teach myself front end right now (CSS, HTML)… From reading I see that most back end developers have degrees in computer science. I want to do front end I think a degree in Interactive Media would be more fitting

If you feel the way you do, definitely you should start learning a programming language. Find the one that you will need most, as for web is PHP or ASP, I would suggest PHP as it`s open source and there are more free resources on the net to learn from.

I think Now A days PHP Is Major Role in All Web Designer career so You choose beater go to PHP Learning Class

i recommend using w3schools.com for learning web design
basically u need to learn html & css then javascript
when you have perfected these you need to learn a server side scripting language like php and a dbms like mysql and a web server like apache

to grow you might also be interested in learning other languages incrementally like
java/jsp
c#/asp.net
python
no sql databases
javascript frameworks like node.js , e.t.c

the trick is to do personal projects to create things that make your life easier whilst using the different languages
practice makes perfect

I would have to disagree there, as there are better resources around. (See http://www.w3fools.com for more information and suggestions of other sites to use.)[/ot]

w3fools.com offers no learning material they are just there to lambast and ridicule the great work that people at w3schools.com are doing
does w3fools.com have any learning materials, no
so what is their use to someone who wants to learn and grow as a designer or web developer

No, but as I said in my previous post, they have links to more reliable sources of learning. However, rockieriot was not asking where to learn but what to learn, so let’s not take this thread any further off-topic. :)[/ot]

the best way to learn code is to challenge yourself but taking up small projects that require you to learn news things, so lve problems around u using code and find out how to do the things u need to do
if need be u can always use sites like sitepoint and stackexchange to ask when things dont come our right
