Capturing a computer's username from Firefox

A developer here has a need to capture a user’s username in windows from the browser and then use that as the username to authenticate the user in a webapp. This can be done in IE via an active x control. I’m wondering if this is possible in Firefox some other way?

Thanks
Bryce

No it isn’t since web pages are not supposed to have that access. The activeX control to do it is only supposed to be available for the intranet zone and with properly configured browsers will not be available from web pages.

So it will only work from the web when people don’t have security set properly in IE.

Thanks for the info Felgall. Its kind of what I suspected, I just wanted to make sure.
