Can I use the same description tag?

Hello friends,

Can I use the same description tag for some of my other similar sites. If no please let me know the reason?

Please give your valuable suggestion’s…

Thanks

You can do it but this is not an usual practice. Search engine will think you are duplicating content and you invite more chance to get rid of your website from the search result or sometimes your site will be penalized.

As a general rule, you should not be using the same <title> or <meta description> for multiple pages. What you’re saying, when you do that, is that those two pages have the same content. But if they have the same content, why have you got two separate pages? The description needs to tell people (and search engines) clearly what the page has to offer them. If you use the same text on each and every page then not only will it be harder for Google to figure out the purpose and point of each page and to rank it accordingly, but it will be hard for potential visitors to figure out which page (if any) they want to look at.

Is this what you want in the search results?

Having the same description tags won’t get you penalized by Google or so (however, by having duplicate content and page titles you can). You should have a different description tag for each of your websites, just a description that fits the websites well, as only one description (I believe) could not describe a couple of different sites.

No you should not use same description tag in another site.Search Engine will consider it as a duplicate content. Duplicate content is not good for site ranking.

Ideally, you have to use description tags which are related to your web page… In case you are using same description, you will get duplicate description tag error in Google Webmaster tools.

Moreover, Google will pick up a relevant snippet from the web page and dispaly it as description for your page.

As per Google you need to use unique title & description about the webpage to provide correct information to the user. Having duplicate meta tags will cause an error of duplicate title & description which can be found using Google Webmaster Tools. Google always focus on giving correct & unique information to their users, co-operating with Google will help you to get good SERP result.

You cannot use the same description at your other pages because SE bots will be confused to your page with similar description. In addition, in every pages that you have there’s a different keyword to target, that’s why you will automatically make a description to target that keyword for your page.
