Calling all Hiring Managers in the USA... Need advice

Hey everyone!

I’m currently working as a programmer/web developer for a small government contractor that works with the big dogs. My education includes a couple associates degrees obtained from a two-year college. My company is having a hard time bidding me on new contracts because, I suspect, my education doesn’t say Bachelors in Computer Science.

So, I’m looking to go back to school to get my Bachelors. Unfortunately, with working full time, a horrific commute and a wife and newborn at home, I won’t be able to attend classes in person. My only option, if I want to finish in a reasonable time, is to do online classes.

How do hiring managers (you or the ones at your company) view online schools? Do they hold less weight than a traditional brick-and-mortar school? Are there certain schools that are viewed more favorably than others? (Currently, a big front-runner is University of Maryland University College) The last thing I want is to get an education from an online four-year school only to find out it’s not seriously considered at larger companies. I want to be competitive…

I look forward to any suggestions, advice or opinions

Thanks in advance.
