Books vs Internet

I suppose that you mean the community, as I think that the articles posted here (at sitepoint.com) are also revised before published.

Books now seem boring… You can learn about the technlogy using internet which is more attractive & presentable. PPTs are interesting and helps learn easily using infographics

I don’t think its feasible to think so, as new technologies are emerging that have powerful capacity to store information indefinitely.

Of course, human beings themselves can be wiped from the face of earth by some catastrophe, but I also find that highly unlikely.

Of course the format will change and the programs to read the old formats will no longer run - so there will be huge storage filled with unreadable data.

Not when the storage device can store and read the data. What you say happened already. The future is unpredictable.

Not many people write books as when compared to people writing informative content on the net… its easier and quick

More people put accurate information in boos though than put it on the internet - most of what you read on the internet is wrong.

I shall disregard that as inaccurate

That’s not the only possibility.

Last week the stupid telephone people were working on the phone lines up the street from my place and when they dropped the cover back on it cut our line. We had no home phone and no internet access for two days until they could send someone out to fix it.

We also have the electricity go off quite often in storms where the storm manages to drop a tree branch on the power lines or something like that (last time it was off for 22 hours). The UPS I have can only power my computer and the router for about two hours.

So while the majority may still be connected to the internet, there are presumably always a small group whose access has been cut for whatever reason.

Even while their internet is cut those people still have access to books.

Many years ago even before the popularity of the internet Isaac Asimov wrote a short story on the future of hand held book readers long before such devices even existed. The ultimate development he came up with didn’t require power and allowed easy access to any part of the document in any order.

I have nothing against the internet and I keep thinking that it is really powerful now a days, we can find any kind of information with the help of it. But is also should be mentioned that the Internet is not always a reliable source of information, there are a lot of mistakes made by users. Nevertheless, I am a book lover.

Books is relaxeation for every people…Everybody must read books…its a good habit

For me it is always the Internet, who helped me through out , because you will get the e-books of the same Publisher, so it is always convenient.

Well…If I’m writing an article, then obvs internet. Books can often be out of date, or have the wrong information. I can’t remember the last time I used a book for info.

As can the internet.

Yeah but at least you can cross check against 5-6 sites easily enough, if you need to spot the one that’s telling lies.

often the top 10 sites on a topic are out of date and the up to date ones are way down the list - simply because everyone keeps copying the same obsolete info

Haha, so what are we saying here exactly? That books and internet are both untrustworthy?

I think it suggests that you should exercise a degree of caution and seek to validate anything you read. Books may run a little further behind, but there’s a good chance that they’ve had many more sets of eyes on them before publication, than any blog article. Learn to pick your sources.
