Blu-Ray Software

Hey guys,

I just bought a laptop that has a Blu-Ray dive, and I am looking for a good Blu-Ray software player. What do you use, and do you recommended it? Preferably one that gives you a year of free updates.

Thanks

There wasn’t anything pre-installed?

Funnily, my Dell came pre-installed with a bunch of crap, and I re-formatted it the day I got it. On the software, it came with a disc that had PowerDVD 9.x on it. Wouldn’t ya know, it doesn’t support Blu-Ray. Go figure. Capital is not an issue, I’m open to anything…

It may support blu-ray but it may not support all the DRM stuff on current blu-rays. I’m currently using PowerDVD 10 Mark 2 and that supports blu-ray fine. As a side note if your set up hardware-wise for 3D that version of PowerDVD will also play 3D blu-rays and can play DVDs in 3D (when in full-screen mode).

VLC plays pretty much anything you throw at it, I don’t have blueray so can’t confirm it works personally, but saw a [URL=“http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=83288”]thread on they’re forum that suggests it does work, although the user had to get some extra files that they’re system needed first, maybe it will work fine for you, it’s free so costs nothing to check.

I usually recommend VLC right off the bat, but retail blu-ray discs (read: encrypted) are not yet supported (at least natively). Self-made/burned blu-ray discs without encryption are playable, from what I can tell.
