Blog on Separate Domain?

I’m trying to decide where I want to put a blog I’m about to create. Here is my website. As you can see, it’s a local dog walking business startup. I’ve got a few separate questions:

Should I put it on a subdomain or as an extension at the end of the url? I googled this and there doesn’t seem to be an easy answer for this. It doens’t seem to matter one way or another.

I’ve also considered putting the blog on a separate domain altogether. Any benefit to that? I’m thinking it will be annoying to site visitors who will have to leave the site just to view the blog. Also, the site won’t be updated without the blog. However, would a RSS feed on the main page be the same as updating daily for the main site? Or not quite the same impact? I’m also thinking ahead of time, too. If I ever move out to another area of the country, at least I’d still have my blog domain that I wouldn’t have to change.

I dunno… it looks like it’s probably best to just add a blog to the current domain. If I do move out of this area in a few years, I will just have to transfer all posts to the new blog domain. What do you all think? Have I answered my own questions already?

Put it on the same domain, in a folder. Preferably http://nkdogwalking.com/blog

No benefit to a separate domain. Lots of benefit on the same domain. More exposure, more for people to come back, more content for visitors, more content for search engines etc.

Thanks for the reply, maartenvr. That’s pretty much what I figured. It just doesn’t make sense to do it the other way. Speaking of folders, what do you think of using folders as a method to get rid of the .html file extensions? How would I do that with my site? I did see something about a ReWrite rule, but I coudln’t understand how to do it exactly. Sorry for going off topic.

you dont need to have separate domain to maintain your blog. It would be better if you have www.domain.com/blog

I have seen some of the top ranking sites having their blogs like that only.
