Blog for main site... where... separate blog service? local on subdomain? integrated?

Hello,

We are looking to add a blog to a website with technical articles. We want best possible user experience, and SEO + social networking capabilities.

Our site is in the Joomla CMS. But Wordpress is better for blogging and we might choose to go with that for the blog part. We are looking into one of the following routes:

  1. Use a 3rd party blogging service (e.g. blogspot). Least amount of effort on our side… and surely a blog in a different domain, with regular links to our main website will be best for SEO right?

  2. Use a separate Wordpress installation for the blog, and put it in a subdomain… e.g. blog.ourwebsite.com. Good blogging platform, but SEO benefit?

  3. Just use extensions (add-ons) for the Joomla site to give it blogging capabilities. Everything stays in the same domain. Not the best blogging platform for sure… and uncertain SEO benefits.

Any suggestions appreciated!

I would (I am no expert) have a separate blog on a separate provider which can also be used to feed links back to your main site.

I kinda wish I did it this way, but I am also using my blog to generate content and keywords across my main site, it’s on the same domain. I am not sure what’s best.

With two separate domains, you’re gonna have to build twice as many backlinks so that any link juice coming from your blog is worth it otherwise your blog and blog pages will have little PR value to share and isn’t really much of an authority site.

That’s the way I look at it be interested to see what others say too…
