Well, ‘Transitional’ is backwards compatible with HTML 4.01 whereas ‘Strict’ is not (even though it uses less presentational attributes) and if you meant the latter question; refer to the XHTML FAQ as to why I said that. :slight_smile:

Some browsers select “Almost standards mode” with a transitional doctype which is at it implies almost the same but handles the alignment of images in tables differently (baseline or bottom alignment).
