I found this in a php code. Aren’t there some better ways to include countries other than the clumsy way above?

I’m not sure how you could do it better. You’re going to need a list of all countries. What better way than in an array?

I personally would actually grab it from a JSON file. Makes life easier since I don’t have to manually create it myself. I can just do a Google search on JSON formatted country lists.

I’d keep it in the PHP file. That way you don’t have to read and parse JSON file every time. Also, when it’s in PHP it can be stored in OPcache, which can’t be done with the JSON file.

To be fair, you could do the exact same thing with the array. It is out there in so many places you would never have to manually create it.

Indeed. Though I was thinking more on the lines of using a service that spits out countries. In this case, you could also go for weather reports for that country. This would indeed require an API that spits out Json data regularly. I know that’s a little bit off topic, but might be something to think about.
