Best "fax from computer" software?

I’ve become addicted to being able to fax directly from my computer using my HP printer that has the capability to do this… unfortunately HP really suxx badly, so needless to say I will be dumping my HP printer soon…but, I want to still be able to fax any doc I’m looking at on my monitor from my computer, which was the primary reason I bought my HP printer since it provided that capability.

Yes, I do have a modem in my computer so I should be able to send faxes out directly, if I can just find a program that works well…

Anybody know of any good programs that allows me to fax directly from my computer…that also works with Win 7

will help http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306550

That’s for XP… got anything for Windows 7 64bit ???

Thanks, but I’m looking for “software”… not a monthly payment plan, as in pay once for some software and I’m done paying.

You have a computer with a telephone modem in it to do that? That’s pretty rare nowadays.

HelloFax has a non-subscription option. 5 free pages per month then 99 cents per fax.

“Windows Fax & Scan” will probably do the trick. It came with my Windows 7 64bit (Ultimate), I don’t know if it’s available with all the other 64bit versions of win7

Thanks, but I’m looking for “software”… not a monthly payment plan, as in pay once for some software and I’m done paying.

In other words, after I pay for whatever software I get… I’m not interested in paying anything to send faxes.

On my wife’s computer (that I’m setting up for her now) she has Win 7 professional, but thanks for letting me know…when I get my new PC, I’ll get the ultimate version… meanwhile, I’ll search and see if MS sells “Windows Fax & Scan” as a stand alone product.

My version of Windows Fax & Scan still needs a fax modem or fax server to send the fax. And I don’t think those come for free?

Have a look in the “C:\windows\system32” folder for wfs.exe

No, but a fella can easily install a modem in their box… once that is paid for, and the software is paid for… I’m dona paying from that point forward which is what I am looking for.

I looked, and it is there…but after reading the documentation, it requires a scanner.

What I’m looking for is a way to fax anything I’m looking at on my screen without having to print it and scan it first and then having to fax it from the Windows Fax console.

The HP Printer over on my computer allows me to print anything I see on my screen immediately by simply hitting “print” and choosing “HP Fax”…and since the fax machine has a telephone modem, it send the fax right out.

Most printers do not have this feature…and, since HP suXX… I need some software that can do the same thing using the modem I will install in my computer so I can both send and receive faxes because my computer will then have the ability to act like a fax machine…so I can send and receive faxes without printing which helps reduce global warming and saves mother earth and all that jazz (actually, I’m just interested in efficiency and convenience)

On my “Devices and Printers” section of Control Panel in the “Printers and Faxes” one device listed there is called “Fax”, try printing to that device in the Print dialogue of an app (I think you need to have a fax server setup/available for it to work).

That’s why I need a good fax software prog, as it takes care of all that enabling me to fax anything I can view on my screen right out of my computer…

Even if you buy the software you are still paying monthly for a phone line and presumably toll fees for long distance so it isn’t like you buy it once and it is all good forever.

Is the modem a fax modem? IIRC, a number of the last generation of winmodems were not.

In our business…I do alot of long distance calling so we already have the unlimited calling program…and the modem I’m getting is a fax modem that plugs right in to the mobo…so, there’s no need to signup with some service that charges me for each fax I send when I can buy a few items that enable me to do this on my own without the need of any service.

It’s all about keeping costs as low as possible, and sometimes you have to spend a little money to do that… at least this will be much less expensive in the long run as well as more efficient and environmentally friendly so I can impress my liberal friends! What’s not to love?

Ok big guy.

Have you just tried printing to Fax, seems to do what you want. Or at least I got so far as it asking where my fax modem was before I gave up.

you can send your fax through this software its free for 30 days essentialfax
