Hello, I just got my Office 2010 Home and Business. I was wondering what OS it best interfaces with? And for it’s online applications, what browser does is it most compatible with - if there is an issue of browser compatibility, that is… I just purchased it from Tek-Micro and I wanted to address these issues before I start using it extensively.
What OS do you have? I’m sure it will work OK with that, although if you got the PC version of Office, obviously use a PC.
The browser issue is not really relevant, I would think. Use the latest version of your preferred browser.
Windows 7 i would recommend, and Office relies on IE. But use your preferred browser, IE is built-in anyways.
But i have used it windows 8. would you recommended it ?
It should work fine but… recommend it? No, I wouldn’t.
Hating Windows 8 since it came out
Why? I was contemplating getting it for running on my Mac. Don’t know much about it, so not sure what the issues are.
I find Windows 8 is a bit of a pain mostly due to the new metro screen? It is good for touch but a pain for PC use. Most of the aps there are also linked into a Microsoft account which means you can not update them without an account.
There is a normal desktop behind the metro interface but it is not as user friendly as anything before Windows 7.
I suppose it is down to what you are used to and Windows 7 changed a few things and Windows 8 changed even more. Jumping from Vista to Windows 8 is hard
No start button either - supposed to have been fixed with Windows 8.1 but everybody I know that has installed that has had problems from the machine rolling back to 8 on its own to the machine being locked.
It also does things like updates when it wants to rather than when you want them done - supposedly this can be changed but why set it this way as the default?
As I say I suppose once you get used to it all should be OK - this is one reason I have not persevierd with Linux as well.
What Rubble; said
I confess that I don’t use the metro interface at all (except when you’re searching for an application, then you can’t help it) but it is still a pain in the…
Something as simple as viewing the printers installed which was one click on Win 7, now you have to go to the control panel and then devices and printers.
But if you use the search feature (which is nice, kind of the Win 7 run/search area right above the windows button but working better) for devices and printers, you will not find it. You can’t even create a shortcut for it
If you do use the Metro interface, you may find that you have to set certain network properties twice (one for the metro interface and other for the old-style one) such as proxy and other stuff.
Of course, the run field has disappear (although you can have a shortcut in your task bar)
I could go on forever with silly things that annoys your life. It is a case of bad organization, really. But it is a pain
Yeah, it’s best to get these things right at the beginning and not change too much. Very annoying when your workflow falls to pieces. Often the Mac upgrades are similar, with thing I liked moved or gone … although I must say I haven’t found much of that in Mavericks.
