Batch saving for web in Photoshop

Hi all,

I’m hoping a Photoshop expert can help me here,

I have a bunch of images (about 2000) which are all currently the same size. I want to run a script to reduce them and use the save for web option to get them as small as possible.

The issue I have is that they are within multiple folders in a single folder and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to make it overwrite the original images and save these in their place while keeping the folder structure, it keeps putting it in one folder.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Going by memory here, but if you are using PS5 you should be able to pull up the Batch command panel and select FOLDER as the first option, tick the box for Subfolders, and for the ‘Destination’ options select “Save & Close”.

In theory if you choose the root folder the batch should run on all subfolders and the images should apply the process then save where they presently reside.

Just check that your Save as options in the recorded instructions isn’t overiding the Destination folder settings. Sometimes that can upset where the files save.

Hope I got that right and that it helps.

Hi Slackr,

Great memory you have there. I have followed your steps but I’m failing at the action I have recorded as it simply opens and closed the image without saving the changes, Yes If I record the action of opening the file, making the required changes in “save for web” and clicking save it will work - but not overwrite the original files (they all end up in one folder)

I’m obviously doing something wrong so I will keep trying to step through it.
