Backlinks (subdomains or folders for international sites)

Hello,

I know that if I use folders for international versions of my website the backlinks will count as juice to all versions of the site.

Do backlinks to the main website also count as link juice to subdomains, if I use subdomains for international sites instead?

It counts, but not so much as it would be when using folders instead of subdomains.
