Backlinks- discerning/targeting feed sources

With so many feed backlinks, I’ve noticed it becoming more difficult to tell the feed pages from the non-feeds. So often credits are vaguely posted if at all. Then there are all the wordpress sites.

So, given a feed result being displayed on a site - what is the best way to determine its source in attempt to reach a published contact in relation to the article/content?

After the feed is posted, would it be considered unusual for a feed to be updated by the sites pulling from it? Don’t some capture at a given time (making this a vain attempt) while others post live?
