Background gradient issue

I’m having trouble generating a good vertical gradient background. I tried photoshop and several online tools. They come out t0o chopped up, you can see gradation as vertical strips of color.

I’m not sure if I’m doing anything wrong, but would appreciate some help.

The two colors I have:
Top: #f6f6f5
Bottom: #FCFCFC

1x1000 dimensions.

What’s the best way to approach this? What’s a good file type to save it as, gif or png?

Thanks!

All I can suggest is to make the image a little wider, as 1px is too narrow for some browsers. Try 10px. Example attached.

Thanks a lot. That actually works very well!

JPEG is definitely the way to go, and there is really very little size difference between 1px wide and 10px wide. Save it as a JPEG Maximum, and it will get rid of those lines. I think a PNG might be too big of a file. Don’t some browsers also treat PNG’s in a weird manner?
