Are Backlinks Dead now?

Hi,

I have seen a few websites that are number in in google for the top competitive keywords without links (in fact 1 link according to google and 12 according to yahoo). I failed to figure out why it ranks number one as it does not fulfill any condition from SEO point of view. The keyword is not in domain, not in title and it is still number one in Google.

Backlinks form the foundation of the web from a search engine point of view.

1 single backlink (from an authoritative source) is good enough to propel a site to the top of the SERPs for a particular phrase.

The keyword doesn’t have to appear in the domain, URL or the TITLE for it to be considered relevant.

Give us the URL and the keyword(s) you are checking and we could probably give a better answer to why the site is performing better than you think.

Also keep in mind that if you’re attempting to find the backlinks in Google with the link:domain.com query it won’t return all links. You’ll only see a small sample of the links that Google actually knows about and has indexed.

Oh to have a backlink from one really good site.

Can you believe that I asked Matt Mullenweg to remove links to my site from WordPress.org in 2005!?! - now PR8/9 page :frowning:

Oye. Well see if he remembers you and maybe he’ll add them back.

On the other hand, I got to first page of Google for the keyword “alexa ranking tips” within the first week of posting the article. I think at that time, the article has very few back links if any and for sure no authoritative ones.

Site Authority. What site was the page part of?

that all site on number one position because they have good popularity and seo friendly content. if you have good content and you have no backlinks and optimize your site to white hat seo strategy so you can get top ranking in google without any backlinks.

Bottom line, back links are not dea but its only a small portion on helping achieving good serp. I find keywords, article content and relevancy the most influential on getting good results.

So, it takes all things are important in Search Engine Optimization.

Which is the most accurate way to find backlinks.

Backlinks will never DIE! lol

it can be indexed i agreed but how can come on the top position ?

I have a number one in yahoo, that I cannot explain, the page rank is zero…

True, if you have a page rank 9 with pointing at you, you probably cannot be moved from the number spot easily…

you have to keep in mind that because the home page say page rank “high number” that means that the page rank for links page or somehere else is going to be that number. I noticed people talk a lot about page rank being this and that, the question is what is the page rank of the page your link is located…it’s “page” rank, not “site” rank. Can someone help me clarify this?

Pagerank is related to backlinks from other sites. Having a site link to you which has a high pagerank may mean you do better in search listing rankings. Also, a site doesn’t have pagerank, each page does

Your site’s pagerank and search listing rankings are not related. Having a high pagerank is mostly worthless

What’s that saying, it’s not quantity, but it’s quality.

I wonder who really knows the truth about all of this, because none of us don’t. No wonder they SEO is 80% scam…I hear one SEO “expert” that charges line a zillion dollars per month for their program, said if you have a higher tool bar page rank and more indexed pages you win in the SERPS…well I have a higher page rank and more pages indexed than someone who is cleaning my clock in the SERPS. That person have only articles and reciprocal links…not even a lot of them…I just have to keep adding links…

Backlinks are important, but I was able to get an article I wrote on the 5 spot on google for a key phrase that brought in 75,000 local searches last month and it only took 1 hour to get on the first page after writing the article. So great content is still king.
