Recently my sites traffic stats and bottomed out at practically zero…and with it my earnings have disappeared! This isn’t just my sites which have a winter time theme, but all of them. So i’ve been working on updating my sites (which i admit i havent done for a long time). Last night I decided to see what my stats were for this time last year…exactly the same! and the year before that was very very similar.
Is this a tough time of year for web developers in general? Or is it just me?!
ps. I use Adsense and EPN, and totally organic traffic, I don’t pay for any advertsing or links.
I would have said that if some of your sites are winter related going in to the spring is not going to help and also in general people have been scaling back on advertising in general.Hence the drop in revenue i think you are not the only one that is suffering i would say that most people are in the same boat.
Indeed, your earnings mostly depends upon what niche you select for marketing. If it is winter based then certainly your going to suffer in spring, it is best advisable to select a niche which can be useful in all seasons, this will help you increase your earning potential.
March 2010 was the best month here in terms of ad revenue (both fill and eCPM) in at least two years. We had high double digit growth compared to March 2009, but of course, that was at the peak (or valley?) or the economic downturn and panic on the part of advertisers. Hopefully things are starting to really turn the corner, even though the recession’s been “over” for the past 9 months, or so the media keeps saying.
April isn’t off to such a torrid start, but we’ll see what happens throughout the month. In March, things didn’t really start picking up until after the 5th, and by the 15th, were roaring along stronger than any performance I’ve seen since the “good ole days” of the dotcom boom.
I think it’s different for different sites, because of the audience.
My observations:
Content-rich entertainment sites spike during business days and fall-off during weekends, summers, holidays.
AdSense sees more earnings during increased advertiser activity phases - around major holidays, end of the month - when left-over budgets get funneled into AdWords, etc.
For me personally, best months are March-May and Sept-Nov - precisely because people are in school or at work and read my sites.

Q1 is always the worst time for ad revenue, due to major ad buyers recovering after tax season. I dread Q1 every year, and don’t even get me started on 2009.
